Blue Jays win on Senior Night
St. Edmund celebrated Senior Night with a 6-4 win over False River Academy as the Blue Jays kept a grip on second place in District 5-1A.
Seniors Christian Walker, Drake Dubois and Kramer Rozas were honored prior to Monday’s game.
“Kramer gives us quality innings every time he pitches,” St. Edmund head coach Ryan Henderson said of his seniors, “Christian is our vocal leader and he stepped up big time at the plate this year.
“Dubois has been an inspiration, coming off an injury in football to show our younger players how to overcome and he has played pretty well in left field.
“We are a scrappy bunch,” Henderson added. “We are playing hard and starting to play well.”
St. Edmund jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Gibson LaFleur (single), Alex Hunt (double) and Aaron Sittig (single) all three scored aided by a Will Chachere had a RBI double.
FRA tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth, but The Blue Jays added two more runs in the bottom of the frame when LaFleur was singled, Hunt was hit by a pitch and they bothe scored on hits by Drew Brown and Walker.
The Gators pushed a run across in the top of the sixth, but St. Edmund added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning when LaFleur walked and later scored as Hunt singled and Brown reached on an error.
LaFleur went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored, while Hunt went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
Walker went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI, while Chachere went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Rozas went 1-for-4 with a RBI.
Rozas earned the win on the mound as he alloed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk over six innings.
Brown pitched the scoreless seventh inning and fanned two batters.
The Blue Jays (11-4, 5-2) now face rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (17-8, 4-3) at 4 p.m. today in Ville Platte.
“Our goal is to get a home game in the playoffs,” Henderson said of the No, 21 Blue Jays. “I am not sure if the math will work out that way but beating Sacred Heart and Eunice High would help.”
