Family loses home, belongings in early Easter fire

This house and car were destroyed by fire Sunday. The fire apparently started in the carport on South 4th Street.

A family that had lived in their South 4th Street home a week lost it and most of their belongings in an early Easter morning fire.
Eunice Fire Department officials said that at 1:21 a.m. on Easter Sunday, trucks were dispatched to a house fire at 531 S. 4th.
Fire personnel arriving reported the house fully ablaze from a fire that appeared to have started in the carport.
The Eunice Fire Department responded with a total of three fire engines, or trucks, and 22 firefighters to the scene of the blaze. Eunice Fire Department Chief Mike Arnold said that on-duty staff, along with volunteers from Acadia Fire District #4 and St. Landry Fire District #6 responded to the call.
According to the report, no one was injured in the incident on South 4th Street. The fire was declared out shortly after 3:30 a.m. and all Eunice Fire Department firefighters returned to the stations.
The house was occupied y Elizabeth Roger and three children.
Her 10-year-old son first alerted his mother to the fire, according to media reports.
A crowd funding account has been established for the family.
