Fire hoses going to cats' house

Recycling is going to the bobcats. The Eunice Fire Department donated three full-sized, damaged firehoses to Pamela Kay of the Eunice Bobcat Refuge.
Kay said the hoses will be used as “hammocks” for the wild cats who have been rehabilitated on the grounds of the bobcat refuge.
Why do the old, worn-out firehoses make an ideal hammock for the cats?
“The cats eat everything, so the hoses are virtually indestructible,” said Kay. “The hoses are woven and so you can use them instead of shelving. The cats can use them up high as perches and they can be used for the large carnivores and the smaller cats. So, for us it’s great for some of our shady spots and it’s great that the fire department is willing to share their hoses with the cats.”
Kay said that hoses are great sources of leisure and bedding for the cats. She said that the idea for using the hoses came about from other sanctuaries.
“It’s pretty much something that the larger cat sanctuaries recommend,” said Kay. “And we’ve never been able to afford to buy our own hoses. So, I figured that I’d just ask the Eunice Fire Department and see.”
Fire Chief Mike Arnold said that the fire department was happy to oblige. He said that the bobcat project is worthy cause.
“I like recycling,” said Arnold. “We’re just trying to call some recognition to the project.”
