Woman to take command of combat bomber wing
Jimmy Stewart probably wouldn't believe it and June Allyson would say it's about time.
The leads in the early 1950's classic "Strategic Air Command" about the nation's then-new bomber defense command (eventually headquartered at Barksdale) likely say few female aviators as they went on location, but were they to visit Barksdale Air Force Base this summer, they would meet Col. Kristin Goodwin, soon to become commander of the combat 2nd Bomb Wing.
She is currently vice commander of the 509th Bomb Wing, the nation's B-2 unit, at Whiteman AFB, Mo. The Virginia native has more than 2,700 hours in the B-2, EC-130 and C-130 aircraft.
