LSU may ban tobacco use on campus
A committee will propose that LSU's main campus ban use of all tobacco products beginning with this fall's semester.
University spokesman Ernie Ballard said the recommendation will need approval by LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander.
The university already limits smoking to designated areas.
Campus police won't be able to write tickets for smoking. Leaders acknowledge that for campus visitors and tailgating football fans, it will be more of a recommendation.
Southern University has banned tobacco use on its campuses since 2012. Southern's policy says penalties range from verbal warnings to student expulsion.
