Hammond homeowner killed in late-night gunfire exchange with intruder

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards is asking for the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding a homicide that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Bailey Dr.
Residents in the Bailey Dr. home were awakened by the sound of their back door being kicked in. Within moments the homeowner, 30-year-old Brandon Simms, exchanged gunfire with an intruder resulting in Simms' death.
After the attack, the alleged suspect(s) fled the residence in an unknown direction. The only information at this time regarding the alleged suspect is that he is an unknown black male.
