Charlie saved, everything else lost to fire

Darrell Fontenot holds Charlie, who he rescued from burning house Tuesday evening.

The first thing Darrell Fontenot thought of when he saw his Tasso Loop house ablaze Tuesday evening was Charley, his poodle trapped inside.
Fontenot, in the trucking business, was helping a neighbor mow grass across the street when he saw the smoke rolling from his house.
He dashed across the road and used a stick to break through a glass door to get to his pet.
As Fontenot talked about the fire and the rescue on Wednesday, Charlie seemed no worse for the wear as he sat in his owner's arms.
The house, its contents and the pickup trucked parked in the carport are a different matter -- they are complete loss, as is everything else in the home.
Fontenot said the State Fire Marshal investigating told him the fire may have been intentionally set.
"As far as I know I have no enemies," Fontenot said.
