Noted educator
BATON ROUGE – Services for noted educator and civil rights pioneer Thelma Tacneau will be July 10. She died July 3 in Boston, Mass. at age 97.
She was former principal at Eden Park, Perkins Road and Buchanan Elementary Schools. She was active in a number of civic and professional organizations.
Survivors include a sister.
Arrangements are by Hall Davis and Sons.
Daniell Battery exec
BATON ROUGE – Services for retired Daniell Battery president Edward Taylor will be July 12. He died July 7 at age 81.
He was a U.S. Air Force aviation veteran and former president of Better Business Bureau.
Survivors include his wife Dixie and four children.
Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.
Coach, Centenary athlete
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired coach and former Centenary College athlete James Whitler, Jr. will be July 11. He died July 7 at age 82.
He played basketball, baseball and was on the track and field team at Centenary in the 1950s. He was coach at Youree Drive for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Betty and two sons.
Arrangements are by Hillcrest-Memorial.
