Driver making U-turn struck, killed
Shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 51 north of Old US Hwy 51 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash killed Kyle A. Rigdon, 20, of Amite City.
The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Rigdon was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala southbound on US Hwy 51. At the same time, 19-year-old Adrian J. Seiber (also of Amite City) was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala northbound on US Hwy 51. Rigdon was attempting to make a U-turn to travel northbound on US Hwy 51. Upon pulling into the northbound lanes of US Hwy 51, Rigdon’s Impala was struck on the passenger side by Seiber’s Impala. The impact caused Rigdon’s Impala to leave the roadway.
Despite the fact that he was wearing his seat belt, Rigdon suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Seiber was also properly restrained, yet suffered only minor to moderate injuries. A one year old child in Seiber’s vehicle was not properly restrained, and she was transported from the scene with minor injuries. Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver; however, toxicology samples were taken from both and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
