Jay Caswell in city judge race
Viel P. “Jay” Caswell, Jr. said Friday he will be a candidate for Eunice city judge the Nov. 4 primary.
He is an assistant district attorney for the 27th Judicial District Court and has been a prosecutor in Eunice City Court for 18 years.
Caswell estimates that over the last 10 years he has prosecuted approximately 15,000 adult criminal cases and 4,000 juvenile criminal cases, and abused or neglected , children in need of care cases in Eunice City Court.
Caswell is a U.S. Marine Corps and Louisiana National Guard veteran and holds a speech commumication degree from LSU and a law degree from Loyola Law School.
A native of Eunice, he is the son of Veil P. Caswell, Sr. and the late Theresa Miller Caswell. He has five siblings.
Caswell is the father of two adult children - Lauren, a LSU business management graduate working for an insurance company, and Trey, a student at LSU Eunice voted baseball team captain this year - and the grandfather of one two-year-old.
He is engaged to Heather Savoy, the daughter of Gervais “Duck” and Cathy Savoy from the Lawtell area. She is the owner/operator of a local full service beauty salon and she and Caswell stay busy with Madison who is 9 and Emma who is 5.
Long-time City Judge Lynette Feucht is retiring after this term.
Other announced candidates for the post are Paul Brown, Josie Frank and Terry Hoychick.
