Man, granddaughter die in fiery collision with log truck

Fire fighters put out flames at scene of fatal crash.

Investigation continues into an accident that killed an elderly Mississippi man and his granddaughter.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m. on July 24, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on La. Hwy 67 north of La. Hwy 422 near the Mississippi state line in East Feliciana Parish.
The crash killed William K. Blalock, 86, and Ariel M. Foster, 19, both of Liberty, Miss.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Blalock was driving a 2010 Kia Optima northbound on La. 67.
At the same time, 46-year-old Sidney Rollins, III of Liberty was driving a 1999 Western Star tractor-trailer (a log truck) southbound on La. Hwy 67.
For unknown reasons, Blalock’s Kia crossed the centerline in a left hand curve. Upon doing so , the Kia struck the tractor-trailer head-on in the southbound lane.
Both vehicles then ran off the roadway and became engulfed in flames.
Blalock and Foster were properly restrained, but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Rollins was properly restrained and suffered only minor injuries.
Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver; however, toxicology samples were taken from both and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
