Alleged home invader charge with attempted murder, 21 shell casings found
A man whose home was allegedly invaded escaped more than 20 shots with his life, and the alleged intruder is in jail.
Jamaican Jamar Major, 21, of Opelousas is chargded with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated burglary, felony possession of a firearm and home invasion.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena said, “On August 18, 2014, officers with Arnaudville Police Department requested the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s detectives while investigating a home invasion at the 100 block of Allemond Street. When detectives arrived on scene, they observed approximately 21 shell casings inside of the residence.”
Vizena stated, “The victim told detectives that he was sleeping when he was awakened by a gun being pointed towards his head. The suspect opened fire on the victim who was able to escape with non-life-threatening injuries.”
“The victim was able to identify the suspect. Detectives were able to recover the handgun used during the home invasion at Major’s residence. A warrant was issued for Major and he was taken into custody on August 22, 2014 with no incident. He is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail with no bond,” Vizena added.
