Bobcats open season Thursday

PRAIRIE RONDE – The season can’t get here soon enough for Eunice High head coach Paul Trosclair and his Bobcat team.
Eunice travels to Northwest for a 7 p.m. kickoff today in a battle against former district rivals.
Besides Trosclair looking for his 200th career win, the Bobcats want to start the season on a strong note against the Raiders.
Last season, the Bobcats grabbed a 28-12 win over Northwest, who finished 6-6 on the year.
“They are a good looking football team,” Trosclair said of the Raiders. “They are aggressive on defense and a strong running team on offense.
Chris Lee, McKenzie Roberts and Kendall Richard will shares the ball in the running game for first-year head coach Chris Edwards.
Kirk Bellard and Ferris Collins leads the Raider defense.
“It will be a good challenge for us,” the coach continued.
“It will not be an easy game anymore, they battle us pretty good.
“We need to protect the ball on offense and do the special teams right,” Trosclair said of the opener. “We can’t give up big plays and we will have a chance.”
“I know we are going to make a good jump from the jamboree to the first game,” Trosclair said.
“I saw some things we can improve on offense, defense and special teams.
“The jamboree really helps us as we get under the lights with special teams,” the coach said.
“When you put people in the stands and referees on the field, everything changes.
“It helped us see some things we needed to correct for sure.”
In the 10-7 loss to DeRidder in the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree, the Dragons had 134 yards on the ground including an 80-yard touchdown by Cameron Goins.
Eunice had 54 yards on 17 rushes, led by Johnson (3-31), while Ty Ceaser scored the only touchdown for the Bobcats.
