Fontenot named Player of Week

BASILE - The powerful Bearcat offense rolled up 363 yards in Basile’s 35-7 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte in the season opener.
Junior running back Gabe Fontenot gained 177 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 3 and 93 yards. He also caught one pass for 20 yards against the Trojans.
For his efforts, Fontenot was selected the Eunice News Player of the Week for Sept. 1-6.
Basile senior running back Kendrick Ceaser gained 158 yards on 22 carries against Sacred Heart and scored on runs of 9 and 15 yards.
Eunice runningback Ty Ceaser only gained 46 yards on 11 carries, but he scored on runs of 5, 1 and 5 yards to help lift the Bobcats to a 28-21 win over Northwest.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown completed 15-of-33 passes for 169 yards in the Blue Jays’ 33-6 loss to Rayne. Brown also rushed for 38 yards on 15 carries. Alex Hunt had seven catches for 88 yards.
Church Point quarterback Troy Matte completed 6-of-11 passes for 102 yards including touchdown tosses to Frederick Williams (56 yards) and Tyler Wheeler (4 yards) in the Bears’ 35-7 win over Beau Chene.
Church Point running back Deion Monroe ran for 102 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards against the Gators.
Mamou quarterback Dylan Duplechain completed 10-of-30 passes for 128 yards including a 26-yard touchdown to Jacob Israel in the Green Demons’ 48-13 loss to Pickering.
