Aviation consultant
LAFAYETTE – Services for aviation consultant Vernon Albert are Sept. 15. He died Sept. 11 at age 72.
He was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot veteran of the Vietnam War and held the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was retired vice president/chief pilot for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. and former chairman of the board of the Helicopter Association International. His Albert & Associates performed aviation consulting services to oil, insurance and aviation companies.
Survivors include his wife Reatha and two children.
Educator
ERATH – Services for educator J. Numa Broussard are Sept. 15. He died Sept. 12 at age 93.
He was a teacher at Erath High for 20 years and a supervisor for the Vermilion Parish School Board for 13 years. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Ledie and two children.
Reading advocate
ALEXANDRIA – Services were Sept. 12 for reading advocate Rose Bialy. She died Sept. 10 at age 86.
She and her late husband operated a men’s wear store here for more than 30 years. She was instrumental in the introduction of Reading Is Fundamental in Rapides Parish schools, recruiting volunteers from Louisiana College and LSU Alexandria annually to help children with learning disabilities learn to read. She was also instrumental in the introduction of hearing testing for elementary school students in the parish.
Survivors include several children.
