Parish council proposes economic development district

The St. Landry Parish Council, at a Special Meeting on September 25, 2014, called by Parish President Bill Fontenot, voted unanimously to adopt a resolution giving notice of intention to create the Harry Guilbeau I-49 Economic Development District.
The Council also voted unanimously to introduce an ordinance to create the Harry Guilbeau I-49 Economic Development District.
Under the leadership of St. Landry Parish Economic Development (SLED) through a collaborative partnership between St. Landry Parish and the City Of Opelousas, a proposed economic development district will be established known as the "Harry Guilbeau Area Economic Development District."
The joint economic development district will be created for the purpose of facilitating economic development to create or preserve jobs and provide employment opportunities as well as to improve the economic welfare of the people parish-wide.
Long-range plans for the district include construction of an equine event center.
The council meeting agenda was also amended in order to introduce the 2015 St. Landry Parish Budget. The council again voted unanimously to introduce an ordinance of the 2015 Proposed Budget for
St. Landry Parish Government.
