Bobcats ready for Indians’ charge
With a 48-0 win to open District 4-4A play, the Bobcats are sitting atop the standings while this week’s opponent is still searching for their first win.
But Eunice High (3-1, 1-0) head coach Paul Trosclair pointed out that Washington Marion’s record doesn’t tell the whole story.
“They are a good team with a bad record,” Trosclair said. “They have a talented team that moves the ball well.”
Washington-Marion (0-4, 0-1) opened the season with losses against Barbe (29-0), undefeated Sam Houston (43-18), Sulphur (26-0) and undefeated Rayne (28-21).
“They had Rayne beat with 35 seconds to go,” Trosclair said. “I know they are a good football team, their record just doesn’t show that.”
Eunice is tied for the 4-4A lead with No. 6 Rayne (4-0,1-0) and Crowley (3-1, 1-0), while Washington Marion is sitting at the bottom with Beau Chene (1-3, 0-1), Opelousas High (1-3, 0-1) and LaGrange (0-4, 0-0).
“By the fourth game of the season our execution was better,” Trosclair said of the one-sided win over OHS. “We need to get better throwing the ball this week.”
Against the Tigers, Eunice had 259 yards rushing and 84 yards passing.
Ty Ceaser rushed nine times for 93 yards, while Triston Frye added 83 yards on 10 carries.
Alex Richard completed 3-of-6 passes for 84 yards, with Travis Godfrey hauling in two catches for 55 yards.
“Washington Marion has the athletes that can make plays to stop the run,” Trosclair said. “We need some big pass plays to really help the offense.”
The Bobcat defense limited OHS to 99 yards through the air and just three yards on the ground.
“Getting after the quarterback is the best way to prevent a completion,” the coach said. “Our guys are not bad getting to the quarterback.”
