Indians stun Bobcats in OT

It took just a few minutes to go from high to low for players and fans of the Eunice High Bobcats Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Trailing the Washington-Marion Indians 20-0 at the half, the Bobcats rallied back to tie the game at 20-20 with just seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
But the Chargin’ Indians scored a touchdown in overtime to go up 26-20 after missing the PAT kick.
The Cats were held out of the end zone on their four attempts from the 10-yard line and the Indians earned the victory.
It was a tough loss for head coach Paul Trosclair and his team. “We didn’t play well enough in the first half”, commented Trosclair.
The Bobcats were unable to halt the running attack of the Indians who rushed for 127 yards in the half.
The Cats also lost a fumble in the opening half and were unable to score just prior to halftime when they had a first-and-goal at the Indians’ 3-yard line.
The Bobcats turned the game around in the third quarter after Paul Zachary returned the kickoff 17 yards to the Eunice 37.
The Cats drove 63 yards in seven plays for a touchdown with quarterback Alex Richard scoring on a 9-yard run. Wesley Hebert kicked the PAT to close the score to 20-7 with 9:18 left in the third quarter.
Key plays in the drive came on a 25-yard run by Ty Ceasar and a 13-yard run by Richard.
The Bobcat defense stopped the Indians on the ensuing possession, forcing a punt.
The Cats took over the ball at the Indians’ 40 and the Cats cashed in on first down as junior Nick Powell burst through the middle and went all the way for a touchdown. The PAT kick was wide right, leaving the Cats trailing by a 20-13 margin with 6:35 left in the third quarter.
The Indians picked up a couple of first downs on their possession, but the Bobcat defense stopped the Indians on a fourth-and-14 at the Eunice 29.
Richard broke free on a second-and-three for 41 yards, but he fumbled and the Indians recovered at their own 23.
The Indians managed to control the ball for the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter before fumbling at the Eunice 20 with the Cats recovering.
Eunice then marched down the field, covering 77 yards in 13 plays with Richard scoring on a 1-yard run. Hebert kicked the PAT to tie the game with 26.1 seconds left on the clock.
Big plays during the drive came on Triston Frye’s runs of 10 and 15 yards and Richard connecting with Travis Godfrey on a 35-yard pass.
In overtime, though, the Indians scored on Jacobi Taylor’s 6-yard run on second-and-goal.
Frye gained two yards on first down, but Richard managed just two yards on two carries. A fourth-down pass fell incomplete to end the game.
Richard led the Cats in rushing with 91 yards on 15 carries. Robert Owens led the Indians in rushing with 137 yards on 21 carries.
The Cats travel this Friday to LaGrange for another District 4-4A game.
