Priest
NEW IBERIA – Services for long-time priest the Rev. Joseph Matt will be Oct. 9. He died Oct. 5 at age 96.
He was ordained in 1945 and pastored churches in Opelousas, Evangeline, Oakdale, Gueydan, Lafayette, Duralde and in New Iberia, where he as pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus for 21 years.
Arrangements are by Pellerin.
Physics professor
NEW ORLEANS – Services for retired physics professor Dr. James De Pagter will be Oct. 10. He died Sept. 29 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a researcher for Harvard University & MIT, working on the Cambridge Electron Accelerator. He later served as university professor and Department Head of Physics at University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth.
Survivors include two children.
TP Journalist
NEW ORLEANS – Services for retired Times Picayune reporter/writer Elizabeth “Betsy” Woods were Oct. 4. She died Sept. 30 at age 94.
She was a general assignments reporter and feature writer for the Times Picayune and later an account executive with Scott Wilson and Associates, PR counselors. She was a former board member of the Children’s Bureau of New Orleans, the Junior Philharmonic Society, and the Causeries du Lundi; a member of France-Amerique, Le Petit Salon, and The Orleans Club.
Survivors include husband James and a son.
