Former legislator
BATON ROUGE – Services for former legislator Jewel Newman will be Oct. 11. He died Oct. 4 at age 93.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He owned and operated an Esso station for 15 years. He served three four-year terms on the East Baton Rouge Metro Council and was then elected to the state House of Representatives. He retired in 1988. He served on the board of the Louisiana Lottery Corp.
Survivors include his wife Sallie and several children.
Arrangements are by Wilbert.
SLEMCO board member
PRAIRIE RONDE – Services will be Oct. 10 for tractor company owner Dewey Ledoux, Jr. He died Oct. 7 at age 74.
He owned a tractor and office furniture company for more than 40 years. He was on the board of SLEMCO for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Mary and several children.
Arrangements are by LaFond-Ardoin, Opelousas.
Attorney-banker
RAYNE – Services for former city attorney and banker Charles “Moon” Chappuis will be Oct. 13. He died Oct. 8.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II’s European Theater. He was city attorney for Rayne for almost 30 years was a director for 46 years and past vice president of Rayne Building & Loan Association, and a 17-year director of Rayne State Bank & Trust Co.
Survivors include his wife Carmelite, a son and five daughters.
Arrangements are by Gossen.
