The American Legion post has asked Mayor Chester Derbes to declare a 24-hour period of mourning at which times flags will fly at half mast when bodies of World War II dead are returned to Eunice. Within the next year, 10 or more bodies will be returned for burial. The first being returned is that of Pfc. John Fontenot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Agnias Fontenot.
First Methodist Church has approved plans for a $25,000 education building, according to the Rev. James Stoval, pastor. Building Committee chairman is N.J. Amy.
Allan Layne, “Red Ryder” of Republic Pictures, appeared on stage at the Liberty Theater along with world champion junior trick roper Bobby Clark.
Kelly-Weber and Co. announced plans to build a $150,000 fertilizer-mixing plant next to the Missouri Pacific tracks.
A Basile man was shot and killed, allegedly by his 12-year-old son who was tired of him allegedly beating his mother.
Garret Milner, Jr. and a friend from Opelousas recently completed a trip to the West Coast and back - by motorcycle.
Area farmers have organized a company to build and operate a rice drier and storage facilities here. E.A. Veillon is secretary-treasurer of the corporation.
