Former mayor, veteran advocate
ESTHERWOOD – Services for former mayor and veterans advocate Ernie Broussard will be Oct. 20. He died Oct. 14 at age 89.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of world war II’s Pacific Theater. He was an insurance agent and rice mill-dryer executive and served as mayor from 38 years. He was a former member of the Louisiana Veteran Affairs Commission, serving two terms as its chairman. He was state director of Veterans Affairs from 1992-1996.
Survivors include his wife Sylvia and seven children.
