Property owners have signed petitions asking the city to pave more than 8 miles of streets, according to engineer L.J. “Red” Aucoin.
Jacob Brandt and Milton Johnson have opened their store at 101 West Walnut in the old Standard Hardware building. The new firm has a complete line of home furnishings, appliances, hardware, jewelry and gifts.
The Eunice Women’s Club has raised $350 in their drive for funds to construct a new Eunice library.
Markwell and Hartz of Memphis, Tenn. was awarded the $448,000 contract for a new city sewerage treatment plant and two lift stations.
Gov. Robert F. Kennon said Louisiana and Texas have sign an agreement for control and development of the Sabine River, including construction of what will be called Toledo Bend Dam and Reservoir.
Adam Daigle was appointed Eunice assistant police chief. The former policeman will fill in for ailing Chief Wesley Duplechin.
Homecoming Court at Eunice High is composed of Rita Courville, Elsie Hebert, Mercedes Manuel, Judy O’Brien, Dorothy Vizinat and Clydell Davenport.
Coleman “Red” Fontenot has returned after two weeks’ schooling as a ranger for the Wild Life and Fisheries Commission He will work in St. Landry and parts of Evangeline and Acadia Parishes.
Homecoming court at St. Edmund’s is Becky Fruge, Bonnie Courville, Gilda Ardoin, Amelia Guillory, Ruthie Ann Fuselier, Janice LaHaye, Amanda Rozas, LuLu Sabatier, Jackie Eaton, Linda Guillory and Betty Courville.
Eunice attorney Wesley Clanton is a candidate for lieutenant governor on the ticket of Col. Francis Grevemberg.
Awarded Eagle Scout badges were Walter O. Reed, Jr., George J. Derbes and Walter Derbes.
