Fontenot, Veronie share top honors

It was an impressive offensive showing as two players both tallied five touchdowns for their teams to share top player honors.
Basile’s Gabe Fontenot gained 173 yards on 14 carries and scored on a 90-yard kick return as well as runs of 2, 22 and 68 yards in the Bearcats’ 56-14 Thursday night win over Grand Lake.
Church Point’s Christian Veronie carried the ball 16 times for 139 yards and scored on runs of 13, 3, 7. 5 and 4 yards in the Bears’ 59-20 Friday night win over Northwest.
For their efforts, Fontenot and Veronie share Player of the Week honors for Oct. 12-18.
Iota’s Kaleb Guillory gained 164 yards on 27 carries and scored a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 42-13 loss to Westlake.
St. Edmund’s Zach LaFleur gained 122 yards on 16 carries including a 13-yard touchdown run in the Blue Jays’ 56-0 win over North Central.
Eunice High quarterback Alex Richard completed 9-of-17 passes for 93 yards and scored on a 3-yard run in the Bobcats’ 20-13 loss to the Rayne Wolves.
Church Point quarterback Troy Mattte completed 3-of-6 passes for 93 yards in the Bears’ win.
