Bischoffs create a Buzz

The Bischoffs talk "Buzz" at recent Kiwanis meeting.

The Bischoffs, Clint, and his two sons John Paul and Luke, were guests of Eunice Kiwanians recently.
The Bischoffs spoke briefly about their family bee business and some aspects of bee keeping and honey harvesting. The Bischoffs began their “Buzz” in May of 2012
Shown to the group of Kiwanians were bee keeping visuals: a 100% bees wax candle, a jar of pure honey, a hive box, plastic frame with bees wax, a bee wax comb, a smoker, and a beekeeper suit.
His first year of beekeeping Bischoff had beehives shipped from Ohio and started with 3-6 hives. According to Bischoff, the most common bees that bee keepers use are the Italian ones, “These are more preferred and less aggressive than the the Russian bees.” Did you know? “Honey bees did not exist in the United States until 1867.”
The Bichoffs currently have over 80 bee colonies. Their honey products are for sale at some Eunice local businesses.
An excerpt taken Sept. 14 from Bischoff Honey facebook, Clint Bischoff posted, “Yesterday Luke and I went through about half our hives to place the boxes ready for extraction on the top of each colony stack. We then added a box of wax foundation (9 wood frames with a wax coated plastic insert) below the boxes filled with honey. Soon the cool weather will start the fall bloom of plants.
“The greatest allergy producer is the golden rod--a tall weed like plant with a yellow top. The bees will gather its pollen along with a variety of other selections (second crop rice, etc) and make our Christmas honey which we will extract in mid November. In 2-3 weeks we will extract our late summer honey crop which promises to be our largest 1-2 day extraction ever.”
