St. Edmund stumbles in Elton tourney
ELTON – The Lady Jays had an early lead, but were out-scored 13-0 in the second period as Jennings rolled to a 46-22 win over St. Edmund in the opening round of the Elton High tournament.
The Lady Jays opened with an 11-10 first quarter advantage as Sydney Thibodeaux and Allison LaFleur each chipped in four points and Payton Crowell added three points.
The Lady Bulldogs responded with a shutout in the second period to push ahead, 23-11 at the break.
The Lady Jays’ offensive struggles continued in the third period as Thibodeaux’s foul shot was the only St. Ed’s point in the quarter.
Jennings’ 12-1 surge in the third frame gave the Lady Dogs a 35-12 advantage moving into the final quarter.
The Lady Jays regrouped in the fourth period, falling 11-10 in the quarter.
Jami LeBouef hit a trey and added a bucket to finish with five points.
Abby Brown scored three points in the quarter, while also Mallory Allain scored to close the final margin to 46-22.
Kailey Breaux led Jennings with 13 points, while Reagan Edwards added 10 points.
The Lady Jays travel to East Beauregard on Tuesday.
Elton 66, SEH 46
ELTON – The host Elton Indians cruised to a 66-46 win over St. Edmund in the opening round of their tournament.
St. Edmund was led by John Guillory’s 17 points.
William Chachere chipped in 11 points, while Cullen Brown and Drew Brown both scored five points.
The Jays travel to Northside Christian on Monday before visiting East Beauregard Tuesday.
