Boxing champion
YOUNGSVILLE – Services are Feb. 2 for former Golden Gloves boxing champion Alvin Menard. He died at age 83.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a national boxing champion at age 16.
Survivors include his wife Hilda and two children.
Public speaking teacher
ST. FRANCISVILLE – Services are Feb. 4 for former LSU public speaking instructor Shirley Pourciau. She died Feb. 2 at age 83.
She taught English and speech in East Baton Rouge Parish schools for 30 years, then joined the LSU faculty. She was a former chairman of the Audubon Pilgrammage and served on the board of Baton Rouge Little Theater.
Survivors include her husband Emile and four children.
