Lady Bengals roll in tourney
GALVESTON β The second-ranked Lady Bengals completed the weekend sweep with two more wins Saturday in the Galveston College tournament.
LSU Eunice (5-0) opened the day with a 5-1 win over Rose State College and finished in fine fashion as the Lady Bengals stormed to a 15-5 victory over Kilgore College.
Destin Vicknair earned the win as she struck out seven batters with two walks and a hit over seven innings.
Ginny Daggett homered in the top of the second and the Lady Bengals added three more runs in the top of the third sparked by a three run homer by Vicknair to score Maddie Edmonston and Taylor Boulet.
LSU Eunice added a run in the top of the sixth before Rose State scored on an error to avoid the shutout.
Vicknair helped her own cause at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Edmonston went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Boulet went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
Daggett went 1-for-2 with a RBI and run scored, while Dani Cruickshank went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Abigail Ohlin also went 2-for-3 in the game.
LSU Eunice 15, Kilgore 5
An eight-run explosion in the third inning led LSUE Lady Bengals to a 15-5 win in five innings over Kilgore College in the tournament finale.
The Lady Bengals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Daggett walked, stole second and scored on a double by Jessica Thomas who later scored on a triple by Jaci Lavine.
After Kilgore took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third, the Lady Bengals responded with the eight-run outbreak to seal the win.
Boulet opened with a double and scored on Kayla Davidson's fielder's choice, while Davidson scored on a single by Thomas.
Carmisha Payton walked and scored on a double by Alli Daigle as the Lady Bengals pushed ahead, 6-4.
Edmonston singled to center to plate Daigle while Lavine drove in Thomas and Edmonston crossed home plate on an error.
Kilgore scored in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 10-5, but the Lady Bengals answered with five more runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the romp.
Daggett (2-for-2, 3 runs scored, walk) singled, stole second and scored on a double by Payton.
Daigle singled and Lavine then blasted a three-run home run before Boulet (2-for-4, RBI, run scored) added a solo shot two batters later.
Kayla Davidson earned the win as she struck out four, walked one and allowed one run on four hits.
Lavine racked up five RBI (2-for-2) for LSUE Lady Bengals.
Vicknair went 3-for-4 with a RBI, Daigle went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Davidson went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored as Edmonston went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
LSU Eunice will entertain Pearl River Community College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in their home opener doubleheader.
