Jacqueline Fruge', teacher, principal, counselor

A Memorial Mass will be offered as a Celebration of Life of Jacqueline Bell Fruge’, 82, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:00 am. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.
She was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. on January 29, 1932 and died on Thursday, January 15, 2015.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 29 years, Matthias James (Jimmy) Fruge’, Jr.; her sister, Patricia Bell Bradley of Lafayette; her brother, George T. Bell of St. James, North Carolina; her stepchildren, Mat J. Fruge’, III, Lydia Fruge’ Fontenot and Janene Fruge’ Cormier and her husband Lamus; her grandchildren, Mary Katherine Bertrand and her husband Brett, Lauren Landry and her husband Josh, Heather Clavier and her husband Kevin, Connor Cormier, Madison Cormier and Zachary Cormier; great grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Noah Bertrand; and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anne Bell; and her brother, Richard Bell.
She graduated high school from St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay, Wisc. She held an undergraduate degree in education, two Master degrees in Counseling and Pastoral Counseling and a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling. She spent her life in service to others as a religious Sister for 20 years in St. Katherine Drexel’s order, and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. She worked as a teacher, principal and counselor in a number of school systems in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, New Orleans and Florida. She began to work as a psychotherapist following National Certification and State Licensing in Louisiana in 1988. Jacqueline was appointed Director of DH, Office of Women’s Services Center in Lafayette and worked there for four years. After marrying and moving to Eunice, Dr. Fruge’ had a private practice in Marriage and Family Counseling for 15 years. She also worked for LSU Eunice for 10 years as a counselor and coordinator of Student Support Services.
Jacqueline gave of her service to St. Anthony’s Church in Eunice as a Eucharistic Minister, RCIA teacher and as a group counselor. After retiring, she enjoyed writing and published a book, entitled, “Dancing with Nature” which contained her spiritual meditations with nature. She also painted, exhibited and sold her watercolors with the Fine Art’s Council of Eunice. After moving to Lafayette, she worked as a Hospice pastoral volunteer. Jacqueline lived a fulfilled life in all her endeavors and for this, her family and friends celebrate. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
