Council on Aging Mardi Gras Dance

The St. Landry Council on Aging held its annual Mardi Gras dance at the Northwest Community Center Monday afternoon.
Older generations, from near and far, gathered together to enjoy Zydeco and Cajun French music provided by Big J & the Zydeco Dog Pound as they entertained a crowd.
A contest was held for the Most Traditional Costume, Most Original Costume, Best Male & Female Dancer, and King & Queen.
Those winners included: Shirley and Wallace Trahan of Port Barre won Best Female & Male Dancers, Most Original Costume award- Claudia Wood of Eunice and Margaret Wright of Mamou, Honorable Mention Most Original went to Tommy Horton of Trinidad, Texas, Most Traditional winners were Betty Faulkenbury of Crossett, Ark. and J. Harris, and King & Queen crowned were Marsha and Richard Whalen of Many, LA.
Judges for the contests were: Police Chief Randy Fontenot, Captain Platt of St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department, Judy Johnson of Eunice Extended Care, Cheryl Long of Central LA Home Health, Theresa Stelly of Central LA Home Health, and Deserie Ardoin of Central LA Hospice.
Folks enjoyed traditional gumbo and King Cake.
