Blue Jays rally past Mangham
St. Edmund exploded for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal a 6-3 win over Mangham in the John. R. Young Cheverolet/Frey Holding Company baseball tournament played at North Park.
The Dragons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kyle Barefield reached on an error and scored on a single by Casey Richardson.
The Blue Jays (6-2) tied the game in the bottom of the second when Gibson LaFleur tripled and courtesy runner Cole Bergeron scored on a sacrifice fly by Drake Brunet.
St. Edmund grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when LaFleur doubled and Bergeron crossed home plate on a single to right by Alex Hunt.
Mangham tied the game in the top of the fifth as Richardson reached on an error and scored on a bases-loaded walk.
St. Edmund responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth when William Chachere walked and courtesy runner Aaron Sittig raced home on a double to centerfield by Drew Brown.
The Dragons tied the game again in the top of the sixth when Ridge Heisler singled to right and scored on a hit up the middle by Chris Flemming.
The Blue Jays answered with a game-changing inning as Brunet walked to open the frame and scored on a hit by Hunt to give St. Edmund a 4-3 advantage.
Austin Sittig singled and Bergeron walked to keep the inning alive.
The duo both scored when a pick-off throw went into centerfield as St. Edmund jumped ahead 6-3.
The Blue Jay defense stiffened and kept the Dragons from scoring in the top of the seventh.
Hans Redlich lasted four innings for the Blue Jays as he struck out three, walked three with one hitbatsman and allowed one run on two hits.
Chachere picked up the win as he went the final three innings as he walked three with a hitbatsman and two runs on two hits.
Hunt went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Jays, while LaFleur went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
After finishing the tournament today, the Blue Jays will entertain Northside at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
