Air Force Lt. Garet “BB” Jenkins, son of Mrs. Mark Jenkins of Eunice and the late Mr. Jenkins, set a jet altitude record of 47,500 feet in his 230 TV-2.
A petition is again circulating asking that the City Council not locate the new hospital on a tract in East Eunice across the tracks. The council has accepted a new proposal for opening streets to the Moosa site.
Dr. Roland Fink was the grand prize winner with the largest bass in the annual area fishing contest. His catch weight six pounds, two ounces and was caught a Hawaiian Wiggler No. 2 at Chicot Lake on May 1.
A contract for erection of a new commercial building on the Fair Grounds site has been let. The old building will be demolished, according to Tri-Parish Fair board president Leonard Lejeune.
City property owners gave overwhelming approval to the issuing of a total of $1.6 million in bonds to finance a new sewerage disposal plant on Ritchie Road and to replace some of the old collection system.

Sister Mary Imelda Blanchard, daugher of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Blanchard of Eunice made her final profession of faith. Receiving the habit of the order and their names in religion were Shirley Guillory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leer Guillory of Eunice, who became Sister Mary Irene, and Currice Guillory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Guillory of Eunice, who became Sister Mirian Joseph.
Manager Clarence Sonnier said Cleco has completed installation of 79 new street lamps in subdivisions just taken into the city and along West and East Laurel. Cost was $8,000.
