Lady Bobcats fall to OHS
It was an exciting beginning for the Eunice High volleyball team in Monday’s season opener.
It was also a learning experience for the Lady Cats as Opelousas High earned a 25-12, 25-13, 25-8 sweep.
“We are a first-year program playing against teams with experience,” EHS assistant coach Wayne Fontenot said. “We are still learning as we go.
“There are aspects of our game that are positive but when we get our transition game done you will see a better team.”
After Eunice forced a 3-3 tie in the first game, OHS rallied for a 13-5 advantage.
The Lady Cats responded with a 4-0 surge including two aces by Madison Guillory to close the gap to 13-8.
Opelousas pushed ahead 20-10 before an OHS error and an ace by Raquel Bernard helped the Lady Cats pull closer, 20-12.
OHS sealed thr win with a five straight points by Skylasha Guillory for the 25-12 victory.
Bernard drilled an ace to begin the second match, but the Lady Tigers anwered with six strsaight points.
EHS closed the gap to 7-3 before three aces from Miranda Menard gave OHS a 12-3 advantage.
The Lady Cats battled back with a kill by Alexia Jason and four serves from Mia Lejeune.
Eunice later closed the gap to 18-13 before OHS went on a 7-0 run including three aces by Mogan Booksh to earn the 25-13 win.
Eunice forced a 3-3 tie early in the final match, but Menard helped OHS to mount a 13-0 run as the Lady Tigers pushed ahead 15-3.
The Lady Cats finally broke serve, but OHS then answered with a 6-2 run for a 22-6 margin.
Eunice scored two more points before OHS sealed the 25-8 victory.
“We need to move quickly from offense to defense,” Fontenot said. “We are getting caught watching the play instead of anticipating where the play is going and get there.
“We are not playing like a first-year team,” he said. “But we need to get better.”
The Eunice junior varsity grabbed a 26-24, 25-23 sweep over OHS to begin the season.
