Bengals building new team

By Tom Dodge

Even with their fifth championship trophy in their case, the LSU Eunice Bengals are not relaxing.
After winning two scrimmages at Delgado to open the fall schedule, the Bengals travel to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond on Friday. LSU Eunice will face Jones County Community College at 4 p.m. and Baton Rouge Community College at 7 p.m.
Willis said they are building the team atmosphere and teaching them to compete every day in the classroom and on the field.
“When you have somebody pushing you, everybody gets better.” he said.
Willis said the fall is important as the team grows together and the line-ups are being settled.
“Our freshmen are used to being in showcase settings to grab attention,” Willis said. “Now we are teaching them how to compete for everthing.
“Our returning players spent the summer in a league honing their skills and working as a team.”
Willis said the summer league always helps make a difference in his players’ progression.
“We can never relax,” the coach said. “We are either moving forward or backwards. “We can never just sit still and expect things to keep moving up.”
