St. Ed lockdown lifted
St. Ed elementary and high school campuses were released from a lockdown about 2:35 p.m. Thursday following an incident in the city this morning, said Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
"The incident was not directly associated with the school, but for the safety of the students, the campus was put on lockdown with officers at 10 a.m. this morning," Fontenot said "The lockdown was taken as a precautionary measure, and the students were never in any danger. Everything went well, and the cause of the lockdown has been taken care of."
Fontenot said an adult male was arrested in Mamou in connection with the incident that took place in Eunice. The man was arrested by the Mamou Police Department with the assistance of the Eunice Police Department.
During the lockdown, students were escorted by officers and allowed limited movement to and from classes and lunch with the exception of being allowed outdoors.
"Most of the students did not know the school was on lockdown," Fontenot said. "We wanted to let parents know about the lockdown and rest assured that the children were never in any danger."
Fontenot said more information on the incident will be released at a later time.
