Mamou man accused of throwing acid on estranged wife in Eunice
A 34-year-old Mamou man is accused of throwing acid on his estranged wife and then tying up her on Thursday, a Eunice Police Department arrest warrant stated.
Doung Minh Le, 34, 1000 block of 6th Street, Mamou, is charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Le’s bail was set at $120,000 in the 15th Judicial Court District. There also is a probation hold on Le, he said.
The victim called police at 9:16 a.m. to report someone had thrown acid on her.
After police arrived, the woman said she walked into her residence and into the dining room and was confronted by a masked man, who walked around a wall and threw acid on her, arrest warrant stated.
The woman said her face and body began to burn and she was in extreme pain.
The victim said her attacker’s height and weight resembled that of her estranged husband, Doung Minh Le, the warrant stated. She also told police that at no time did her attacker speak.
The woman’s wrist and ankles were bound with zip ties and the attacker wrote his demands on a notebook, the warrant stated. The writing resembled Le’s handwriting, she said.
At one point the woman’s wrist was freed and she was able to rinse her eyes, the warrant stated.
The victim was forced in different rooms of the house and photographed as her attacker was armed with knives, the warrant stated.
At one point her ankles were freed and eventually she was able to leave the residence and sought help at a neighbor’s house.
The warrant stated Eunice police have responded to domestic disturbances between the victim and suspect at the residence as recently as Sept. 27.
Le admitted being at the residence that morning, but said he never went inside, the warrant stated.
The victim was in a hospital burn unit with third-degree burns to her face and body, the warrant stated.
