Stepfather accused of shooting stepdaughter's boyfriend in the head
A 47-year-old Eunice man shot his stepdaughter’s boyfriend in the head in an altercation Monday, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Billy Sistrunk, 47, 800 block of LSUE Drive, Eunice, is charged with attempted manslaughter.
Fontenot said there was a dispute at about 1 p.m. between the stepdaughter and her boyfriend on the porch of the LSUE Drive residence.
The boyfriend and stepdaughter, both in their early 30s, started pushing each other as they raised their voices, he said.
Sistrunk said he saw the boyfriend assault the woman, Fontenot said.
Sistrunk emerged from the house with a .22-caliber derringer and told the boyfriend to leave the property, Fontenot said.
The victim acknowledged the request and turned, but was then shot in the head from about a foot away, Fontenot said.
The victim drove himself to the the Eunice Police Department office and told police he believed Sistrunk was in pursuit, Fontenot said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated and remains, Fontenot said.
The victim’s injuries did not appear to life-threatening, Fontenot said.
