CHURCH POINT – This year the rivarly game is more than just for bragging rights when No. 7 Eunice High visits No. 5 Church Point on Friday.
The District 5-3A title is on the line when the two one-loss teams clash.
The Bears (6-1, 2-0) suffered a 57-12 loss to 4-A Franklinton, while the Bobcats (6-1, 2-0) fell to undefeated Crowley 34-10 in the fourth week of the sesaon.
Church Point rolled to wins over Port Barre (43-6) and Pine Prairie (41-13) to open district play.
The Bobcats are undefeated in district after wins over Ville Platte (34-0) and Northwest (56-25).
The last time these two teams met, the Bobcats won 27-24 in 2012, while the Bears rolled to a 42-7 win in 2011.
The Bears had a balanced attack last week as quarterback Troy Matte completed 11-of-14 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns in the 41-13 win over Pine Prairie.
Bears running back Frederick Williams had 136 yards on eight carries with four touchdowns in the Bears’ 41-13 win over Pine Prairie.
Williams also had four catches for 56 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass from Matte.
Eunice quarterback Alex Richard broke the 1,000-yard mark last week in tbe Bobcats’ win over Northwest.
Richard has completed 71-of-112 passes for 1,069 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
Travis Godfrey leads the Bobcats with 413 yards on 22 catches and six touchdowns, while Terryl Poullard has 32 catches for 311 yards and a score.
Nick Powell leads the Eunice rushers with 711 yards on 117 carries and 13 touchdowns sof far this season.
