Staff report

The Liberty Theater dance floor is currently nameless, but that will all change Saturday night when Jesse Lege performs.
Candace Reeves, with the Liberty Theater, said, in a news release, “Since purchasing the theater 28 years ago, the 1,400-plus weekly shows have taken a toll on this historical landmark. Improvements can insure an even better experience than visitors are already getting. “The City of Eunice, which owns the building and has absorbed operating losses and has limited finances to put into improvements, has given permission to name the theater’s dance floor, for one year in honor of one of its many patrons, if we can raise a modest amount of money to improve the theater.
The theater raised $1,455 in honor of the 1,455th “Rendez Vous des Cajuns” show to name the dance floor for the upcoming year in the names of Moisey and Louella Baudoin, who have attended nearly every show since the beginning.
“Thanks to a generous, $1,000 donation from KBON Radio station, we have exceeded our goal but you can’t put a price on restoring such a historical landmark and donations are gladly appreciated anytime,” Reeves said. “Moisey and Louella are well-known among regional festival-goers. We hope to enliven the history of the show using their experience and to invite festival goers to attend the following week’s special show and ceremony.
“The money raised will be used only to improve sound and make repairs to the building to offer a better experience for our younger generation and our weekly visitors.”
Those who donate $100 to Saturday’s show will receive recognition by name during the show, including its broadcast and rebroadcasts, complimentary admission to the show and special reserved seating at the front and an invitation for two to attend a private reception following the show with Moisey and Louella, members of the band whom just finished playing at the Liberty Theatre and other musical guests and dignitaries in the original theater manager’s upstairs offices overlooking South 2nd Street. The donors will also receive a commemorative photo of the dedication that will be put on display in the lobby for the next year with donors names listed in the photo caption and a digital copy of the photo to share or display
“And most importantly, you’ll enjoy satisfaction knowing you’ve made a difference in preserving and sharing our heritage, culture and music with our young generations and with our visitors,” Reeves added.
Donations to can be mailed to The Liberty Theater, PO Box 1106, Eunice, LA 70535, and contribution checks can be made payable to ‘The City of Eunice’.
