LaFleur grabs top honors
With the Blue Jay starting quarterback not available to play against Westminster Christian Academy, senior running back Gibson LaFleur changed positions to try and help his team with a crucial District 5-1A contest.
LaFleur did more than try as he gained 224 yards on 31 carries and completed 4-of-8 passes for 109 yards in the Blue Jays’ 32-20 win. The Blue Jays finished with 4-1 yards of total offense, with LaFleur accountable for 333 yards.
LaFleur also ran for three touchdowns and connected with Cole Bergeron for a 41-yard score.
For his efforts, LaFleur was selected as the Eunice News Player of the Week for Oct. 18-24.

The Eunice defense limited Church Point to just six points and 165 yards of total offense as the No. 7 Bobcats stunned the No. 5 Bears, 37-6.
Iota quarterback Trae Hamblin completed 13-of-36 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs’45-18 loss to Iowa.
Bliss Deshazo caught seven passes for 119 yards and a score, while Kaleb Guillory rushed for 137 yards on 35 carries and a touchdown.
Basile running back Gabe Fontenot gained 142 yards on 13 carries and scored twice in the Bearcats’ 57-0 win over False River Academy. Jared Belle added 115 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns.
Bearcat quarterback Tray David accounted for three rushing touchdowns and another through the air against FRA.
Blue Jay receiver Cole Bergergon had three catches for 96 yards and a score against WCA.
Eunice’s Wesley Hebert gained 93 yards on eight carries against Church Point. He also nailed a 26-yard field goal and added four extra points in the win.
Travis Godfrey completed 2-of-2 passes as a wide receiver both for touchdowns, including a 56-yarder to Terryl Poullard and a 28-yard scoring strike to Dashawn Vigers in the Bobcats’ win.
