No. 5 Bobcats to honor seniors

By Tom Dodge

With a stunning 37-6 win over Church Point, the Bobcats are in the driver’s seat for the District 5-3A title.
Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair is excited about how his team performed against the Bears, but wants the momentum to continue this week against the Port Barre Red Devils.
“It was an awesome win,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We are fighting not to have a let down after such a big emotional win.
Port Barre (5-3, 1-2) earned its first district win last week with a 28-0 victory over Pine Prairie.
The Red Devils intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble and limited the Panthers to 157 total yards en route to the shut out win.
“Port Barre has a great tradition,” Trosclair said.
“They have good talent and we have to be ready for what they can do.
We can’t over look them because if we do they are a threat to beat us.”
The Bobcats rolled up 364 yards of total offense against the Bears, while holding the high flying Church Point offense to 165 yards and six points.
The Bobcats used two halfback option passes for touchdowns.
Travis Godfrey connected with Terryl Poullard for a 56 yard score in the third period and later found Dashawn Vigers open for a 26-yard score to push the Bobcats ahead, 23-6.
“He has a good of an arm than anybody who has ever played here,” Trosclair said of Godfrey. “He could have easily been our quarterback but we needed him on defense so we put him at different spots on offense.”
Godfrey leads the team with 22 receptions for 413 yards and six touchdowns, while Alex Richard has completed 72-of-121 passes for 1,078 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
“We are looking to stay consistent on both offense and defense,” Trosclair said. “We don’t want to enter the playoffs as an up-and-down team.
Friday night is Senior Night and Trosclair said he is hoping that motivates his team to play well on their final home game of the regular season.
“This team is capable of doing a lot,” the coach said. “District championships are fun, but we want to do better in the playoffs.
“We have the potential to do a lot more.”
