Special city meeting called to appoint alderman

The Eunice mayor and Board of Aldermen are to meet in special session at 9 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall to appoint a Ward 4 alderman.
The Ward 4 seat became open when Scott Fontenot resigned to become interim mayor.
The Board of Aldermen named Fontenot, who was mayor pro-tem and Ward 4 councilman, mayor at its Oct. 13 meeting following the resignation of Claud “Rusty” Moody as mayor.
Moody had been diagnosed with cancer.
A primary election for mayor and Ward 4 councilman is scheduled March 5 and a general election is April 9. Qualifying for the seats is scheduled Dec. 2 through 4.
The meeting Tuesday is also to call the special election to fill the unexpired term of Ward 4 alderman.
Aldermen are paid $7,119.00 a year and may take part in the city’s health insurance.
