Boeing-Boeing wins Best Play at 46th annual Irving Awards

The Eunice Players’ Theatre hosted its 46th annual Irving Awards Saturday evening at the Liberty Theater.
Oliva Dodd’s Studio of Dance senior dance members performed to “Comedy Tonight,” for the opening number of the awards ceremony. Dancers included Anna Heinen, Brooke Aguillard, Katherine Sittig, Kelsey Courville, Logan Landry, Olivia Fuselier, Preslea Laird, Robbi Palmer, Victoria Ardoin and Zoe Berzas.
For the event, season ticket holders received their invitation and ballots to vote on the theater’s three shows presented last year. They included “Other Desert Cities,” “Boeing-Boeing,” and “The Glass Menagerie.”
The summer musical production of “Honky Tonk Angels”, which featured in July, was also recognized. The play, directed by Annette Harrington and Jimmy Broussard involved the cast of Amy Maricle of Bayou Chicot as Sue Ellen; Jeanne Eddins of Iota as Angela; and Sharon Blankenship of Bayou Chicot as Darlene.
“The Honky Tonk Angels” band members included Bernard Brown of Eunice on drums, Nicole Bertrand of Eunice on fiddle, Jimi Bergeron of Basile on lead guitar, James Bergeron of Opelousas on rhythm guitar and Jimmy Broussard of Crowley on keyboard.
Racking-up the most “Best” awards, including the Best Play was “Boeing-Boeing,” directed by Bonnie Pitre Kyzar and Gabe Ortego.
“Boeing-Boeing” was the second production of the 46th season with performances held in September.
“Boeing-Boeing,” a play, by Marc Camoletti, translated by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans, was a non-stop comedy written in the 1960s.
The comedy told a story of a swinging bachelor Bernard, who couldn’t be happier: a flat in Paris and three gorgeous stewardesses of different nationalities that are all engaged to him without knowing about each other. But Bernard’s perfect life gets bumpy when his friend Robert comes to stay and a new and speedier Boeing jet throws off all of his careful planning. Soon all three stewardesses are in town simultaneously, timid Robert is forgetting which lies to tell to whom, and catastrophe looms.
The cast of “Boeing-Boeing” included Amy Martel Rider as Gloria, Angelle Driggs as Gabriella, Bonnie P. Kyzar as Gretchen, Kelly Pitre as Berthe, Van Reed as Robert, and Gabe Ortego as Bernard.
Bryan Kyzar, Charles Seale, Jerica Guillory and Hannah Thibodeaux of “Boeing-Boeing” won the Best Set award.
Best Lighting and Sound award went to Laura Pitre, Grace Courville, and Rick Nesbitt for the production of “Boeing-Boeing.”
Best Costume award was awarded to Clara Pitre for the performance of “Boeing-Boeing”.
Angelle Bellard and Heidi Pitre received an award for Best Hair and MakeUp for “Boeing-Boeing.”
Angelle Driggs as Gabriella in the play of “Boeing-Boeing” captured the Best Supporting Actress award.
Travis Fontenot as Trip Wyeth in the first production of the season “Other Desert Cities” won Best Supporting Actor.
Kelly Pitre as Berthe in “Boeing-Boeing” won the Best Actress award.
Van Reed as Robert captured the Best Actor award in “Boeing-Boeing.”
Winning Best Director were Bonnie P. Kyzar and Gabe Ortego with the production of “Boeing-Boeing.”
Winning the Best Show of the 46th season of Eunice Players’ Theatre was “Boeing-Boeing.”

The 47th season opener will be “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare abridged,” directed by Bonnie P. Kyzar and Gabe Ortego. The play will show sometime in March.
Other plays for the season will include “The Dixie Swim Club” directed by Jody Powell and the third play will be an Agatha Christie suspense comedy, “Black Coffee”, directed by Brett Faulkner.
