MLK Humanitarian Award recipient
Coach Robert Trent received the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award presented by the MLK Committee team members. Trent, an educator for the past 39-1/2-years, with 38-1/2-years at Eunice High, was recognized as the recipient for the award for his dedication, volunteering, and “sharing” with others in his community. Trent said, “Growing up as a young boy I watched my parents on many occasions give and share with others, with bare minimum of what they had at home.” Trent serves as a committee member at the high school with the Back to School supply drive, FCA, and volunteers as a speaker with various young adult programs. Trent serves as a Lay Servant (associate pastor) at St. Paul Methodist Church in Washington. There he serves as a director and coordinator of the church young adults, and other programs his church offers; church health fair, AGAVE, and a School Bash. Trent is a former basketball and football coach at Eunice High and teaches health and physical education. Trent, honored to receive the MLK Humanitarian Award, added, “I’m very humbled and honored to receive this award. I believe the good Lord touched the hearts of many in this community to present me with this plaque. This recognition is very much appreciated.” Trent is a resident of Opelousas, and when not at school, he enjoys relaxing at his camp with his horses. (Photo by Myra Miller)
