Bobcats cruise past Bears

It was apparent that the Eunice High Bobcats had moved on from Friday’s loss at Northwest High as they got off to a fast start in Monday’s District 5-3A battle against Church Point and rolled to 69-35 win.
Malik Poullard quickly put the Bobcats on the board with a driving layup, then Terreyll Poullard swished through a 3-point goal for a quick 5-0 lead to open the game.
After Kylance Castille responded with a field goal for the Bears, Kevin Williams drained a 3-point field goal to give the Bobcats an 8-2 lead which they never surrendered.
Terreyll Poullard would finish the first quarter with seven points, including a field goal that resulted from a pass by Williams.
Williams later sank another 3-point goal as the Bobcats built a 17-9 lead by the end of the quarter.
The Bears tried to climb back into the game in the second quarter, closing the scoring gap to 20-16 on a 3-point goal by Laurent Smith, but the Bobcats responded with successive three-point field goals by Travis Godfrey, Williams, and Godfrey to extend their lead to 29-16.
Free throws by Brandon Ndubueze increased the Eunice lead to 31-16, and the Bobcats held a 33-21 advantage at halftime.
The Bobcats did not relax at the start of the third quarter as Williams turned a defensive steal into a driving bucket in the early going and Malik Poullard, who scored 11 points in the quarter, rebounded and put back a missed shot to extend the lead.
Halen Jack scored two fields around a Castille bucket before the Cats would go on a 15-0 run to finish the third quarter with a 56-23 lead.
Coach Chad Andrepont was able to give playing time to some of his substitutes during the fourth quarter.
By the end of the 69-35 victory, all 12 players who dressed for the game had scored.
Top scorers were Malik Poullard and Williams with 11 points apiece. Terreyll Poullard added nine and Jack and Godfrey had eight apiece. Ndubueze had six points.
Castille led Church Point in scoring with 13 points. Deshawn Wheeler added nine points for the Bears.
The victory improved the overall record of the Bobcats to 19-9 and their district mark to 6-2 with two games remaining.
The Cats will travel to face Port Barre on Friday before finishing the regular season at home against Pine Prairie on Tuesday.
