Catholic PC sweeps St. Edmund

NEW ROADS – Catholic High of Pointe Coupee moved a step closer to the District 5-1A baseball and softball championships with a sweep over St. Edmund Tuesday in New Roads.
The two schools clash again today in Eunice.
The Lady Hornets (11-9. 5-0) grabbed a 2-0 win over St. Edmund, scoring both runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Blaire Bizette reached on an error and scored on Sarah Welch’s hit.
Welch then crossed home plate on a single by Kaitlyn Bellelo.
The Lady Jays 11-12, 3-2) threatened in the top of the first when Heidi Bieber led off with a double but was left stranded at third base.
St. Edmund had another chance to score a run in the top of the fourth when Kasey Lafleur singled but could not advance.
The Lady Jays threatened again in the top of the sixth inning when Bieber singled and Sydney Thibodeaux reached on a fielder’s choice but neither scored.
Ryan Bizette picked up the win for CHPC as she struck out eight and allowed three hits.
Bieber led the Lady Jays with a 2-for-3 performance, while Lafleur went 1-for-3.
Lafleur suffered the loss as she allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

After taking a 1-0 lead to open the game, the Hornets exploded for five runs in the second and sealed the win with four more runs in the fifth frame.
Catholic High-Pointe Coupee scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the mercy-rule 11-1 win.
St. Edmund threatened in the top of the first when Drake Brunet singled and stole second but was left stranded.
The Jays had another chance in the third when Philippe Aguillard singled up the middle but could not advance.
St. Edmund avoided the shutout when Brunet hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 6-1.
Cole Bergeron walked to lead off the top of the sixth inning, but the Jays then went down in order.
William Chachere was handed the loss as he struck out one, walked two and allowed six earned runs on seven hits over 1.1 innings of work.
Dawson Ardoin struck out four, walked two and allowed five runs on four hits over four innings.
Andrew Grezuff earned the complete-game win for the Hornets as he struck out four, walked one and allowed one earned run on three hits.
Brunet went 2-for-3, while Aguillard (1-for-2) picked up the only other hit for the Jays.
