LSUE Early Start Academy sessions
LSU Eunice will hold two information sessions about the Early Start Academy, which is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s experimental site for high school students to access Federal Pell grant funding to complete dual enrollment courses at the LSUE campus.
LSUE has partnered with St. Landry Parish schools to begin the Academy. High school students can take courses, primarily in the STEM fields, and earn college credit to use toward a degree at LSUE and toward a high school diploma. The information session will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Education Building on the LSU Eunice campus. RSVP at lsue.edu/earlystart.

Eunice Bulb meeting set for today
The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will meet today at 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church social hall, located at S. 5th and Oak.
All members are asked to attend this important Planning session.

Meet the Teacher at Glendale today
Glendale Elementary will host its Meet The Teacher at 5:30 p.m. today.
Parents can visit their childs’ teacher and classroom and also bring their $25 Activity fee, and a current utility bill for proof of residency.

ELTL fall registration Aug. 15 until Aug. 26
Registration for the Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) fall season begins Monday, Aug. 15, and concludes Friday, Aug. 26.
Registration forms are available at the Mayor’s Office in Eunice City Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Registration fee is $25, which includes 12-weeks of league play, tennis balls, and an end-of-season banquet.
Women 18 years and older with a good knowledge of the sport, including tennis court etiquette and keeping score, are eligible to join.
League play is on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. at the Eunice Fairgrounds Tennis Complex.
The first date of play is Sept. 6.

Community Garden open hour suspended
The Eunice Community Garden’s open hour on Tuesday has been suspended until milder weather arrives, Patricia Brown, interim garden coordinator, said.

Changes in Farmer’s Market schedule
The Eunice Farmers’ Market last day for Wednesday afternoons, 1 to 5 p.m., will be Wednesday.
Saturday morning market will continue from 9 a.m. until noon until last Saturday before Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
A variety of home-made items and fresh produce will be available.

COA Miles-for-Meals fundraiser Sept. 10
The St. Landry Council on Aging will have its 14th annual Miles-for-Meals walk-a-thon fundraiser on Sept. 10 with registration from 9 until 9:30 a.m.
The walk-a-thon will be held at South City Park in Opelousas with opening program from 9:30 until 10 a.m.
Awards will be given at noon. Pledges are being accepted. For those who pledge $20 or more will receive a Free T-shirt. All proceeds will toward Miles-for Meals.

Saturday program at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

Annual male chorus musical set Aug. 20
The Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice will have its 15th annual male chorus musical at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. On Aug. 21 during the church’s 8:30 a.m. service there will be an annual Men’s Day service with the Rev. Caleb Semien of Word Ministries as the guest speaker.
The public is invited to attend. The church is located at 341 Anne St. in Eunice.
