Dispute between friends turns into a stabbing, police say
A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested Saturday and accused of stabbing a friend during the Eunice High School football homecoming game Friday, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The juvenile is charged with aggravated second-degree battery and carrying a dangerous weapon by a student on school property.
The incident occurred during the third quarter near the handicap ramp to the bleachers, Fontenot said.
The victim said he and the teen who was arrested were involved in horseplay, Fontenot said. But the horseplay turned into bickering and then a fight, and finally a stabbing, Fontenot said.
The injured student was taken to the Acadian Medical Center emergency room for treatment.
Police learned about the incident when the victim’s mother complained Saturday about the suspect being allowed to bring a weapon onto school property, Fontenot said.
The suspect was released to the custody of his parents.
