Kent House official

ALEXANDRIA – Services are Monday for Kent House State Commemorative Area superintendent Beth Levy. She died Sep. 27 at age 61.

She was active in the Louisiana Republican Part and served on the boards of a number of civic organizations. She was a licensed Episcopal Lay Eucharistic Minister and Visitor and served on various Episcopal Diocese of Western Louisiana committees.

Survivors include her husband Robert and two children.

Arrangements are by John Kramer & Son.

Social work leader

SHREVEPORT – Services for housing director, social worker and attorney Cecil McKenzie will be Monday. 

He served on the board of the American Public Welfare Association and was first director of the Dept. of Housing Improvement for the City of Shreveport. He was regional administrator for the state Office of Family Services for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Sallie and two sons.

3-war vet, court clerk

NEW ORLEANS – Services for three-war retired U.S. Marines sergeant major and deputy clerk of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana Cecil Murphy, Jr. will be Wednesday. He died Sept. 25 at age 82.

He was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, service 31 years in the Marine Corps. He was deputy clerk of the federal court or 24 years.

Survivors include a son.

Arrangements are by Lake Lawn.

Episcopal cleric

SHREVEPORT – Services for retired Episcopal rector the Rev. John Patten will be Monday. He died Sept. 27 at age 86.

He was rector of St. Mark’s, Shreveport for 17 years and during that time held a number of posts with the Diocese of Western Louisiana. He was active in a number of civic and social organizations. He was assistant to the treasurer of Humble Oil before resigned to enter seminary.

Survivors include his wife Sybil, two children and two step-children.

Exxon exec

SHREVEPORT – Services will be Tuesday for former Exxon executive Emmett Wells, Jr. He died Sept. 25 at age 97.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II’s Pacific Theater. He retired as vice president for production for Esson Eastern, in charge of all of Exxon’s production in the Far East.

Survivors include three children.

Teacher, performer

NEW ORLEANS – Services for award-winning teacher, vocal performer and essayist Philip Frohnmayer will be Oct. 5. He died Sept. 27 at age 66.

He served as Chair of Vocal Studies at Loyola University College of Music, taught at Humboldt State, University of Utah and University of Oregon.  He was a regular soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic and the New Orleans Opera.

Survivors include his wife Ellen and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Lake Lawn.
