Long-time alderman
JEANERETTE – Services are Wednesday for former city alderman Junius Legnon. He died April 14 at age 88.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II’s Pacific theater. Among his military action was single handedly saving the lives of 10 comrades washed afloat by a typhoon off Okinawa. He was on the board of aldermen for 16 years. He was an American Legion baseball coach for 20 years and was also retired from the Iberia Parish School Board.
Survivors include several children.

Former Regent
BATON ROUGE – Services for former Board of Regents member Edith Kirkpatrick will be Friday. She died April 15 at age 95.
She was a founder of the Youth Orchestra in Baton Rouge and a long-time patron of classical music. A graduate of Louisiana College in Pineville, where she met her late husband Claude, she was the first woman member of the executive board of the Southern Baptist Church, forerunner of the Southern Baptist Convention. She was appointed to the Louisiana College Board of Trustees by Gov. Edwin Edwards and then served 12 years on the Board of Regents after a similar appointment.
